A couple of years ago I rebranded myself as "Because Cute Matters" and I have been wanting to share why I chose that name for a while now, so it's about time I did. The first time I heard the phrase "cute matters" was from Stacy Julian at a Close To My Heart convention. I loved the phrase so much I started using it a lot. As I would craft with friends and we would share our finished product, you would generally hear me say "That's so cute, and cute matters!" I began to realize how I felt when I would finish something that felt "cute" to me, it made me so happy! For someone who struggles with depression, having that burst of happy feelings from creating or seeing something "cute" was so good. But it wasn't until I was on a trip with my friend Crystal that I realized the impact "cute" can make on a person. We were at Disneyland for a Senior trip for our children. They were off playing and here were Crystal and I just playing around together and (of course, we had to get our fun Disneyland hats to wear around while we were there) as we were walking past a window and saw our reflection, Crystal said, "Look at how cute we are, we are so cute!" I don't think Crystal will ever realize what a life changing moment that was for me! I don't ever remember looking at my reflection and thinking I was "cute" and her comment made me realize that that is something you CAN do for yourself. This moment stuck with me and became a turning point for me. I have to thank both Crystal and Stacy Julian for reminding me that "cute" does matter! It matters in how I feel about myself and it matters in how it brings me joy. So if you ever find yourself stuck or feeling low I highly recommend making or finding something cute to lift you up!
