When I was between 8-11 years old I participated in a church activity that was known as Merrie Miss (today it is Activity Days). It was in Merrie Miss that I first learned to embroider, crochet & knit and I fell in love! I remember going to Woolworth's (another oldie but goodie) and my mom buying some pre-printed pillowcases for me to embroider on while I was watching tv. Then in high school during my senior year I got to take a Needle Arts class which was amazing! It was in there that I knitted my first sweater, crocheted a baby blessing dress and my first blanket. We also learned various kinds of embroidery such as Cross-stitch, Crewel, Swedish, Hardanger and so much more! In this shadow box I put one of my Woolworth pillow cases, a Swedish embroidered dish towel I made in high school, my first sample of Hardanger, a cute cow cross-stitch I made years ago, a little sampling of knitting and crochet. Needlework is still one of my most favorite ways to create, but when I had children and focused on their lives needlework fell by the wayside.
A few years ago I picked it up again and I had missed it so much! I love to watch tv and have my hands busy creating something. Recently, a friend asked if I would share more of my needlework projects so look forward to seeing more of what I have created and other needlework projects as I finish them. Hopefully, you will love them as much as I do! Do you do needlework, if not, what is your favorite creative activity? Share in the comments, I would love to know!
