In January I joined "The Lab" which is Jody Moore's coaching program (see her Better Than Happy podcast to learn more about what she does). She uses the phrasing “what if …” a lot. One day last week I found myself using her "what if..." phrasing. I was thinking about my business and how I have always wanted it to be "more" and I thought, “what if it was less, on purpose?” In the direct sales business there are those that are hobbyists who are mostly in it because they love the product and they want the discount and then there are the business builders who work really hard and create amazing businesses (which is where I have always tried to be), but nothing really in between. I didn't want to quit or be a hobbyist, but I just don't have the hustle in me right now to be a business builder. So with ChatGPT, I processed this thought over a couple of days and I came up with something that was in between, a “Curator,” and this is my definition:
Curator – Someone who intentionally maintains, organizes, and nurtures their creative space and business. They focus on quality, not quantity, tending to what already exists and thoughtfully weeding out what doesn’t serve them or their goals.
Within the Curator title, I’ve given myself a few seasons of working. One I am calling a “Weeding Season” which is refining and doing basics to maintain what I have while also weeding out what isn't working or that I just don't have the bandwidth for right now. My plan is to evaluate where I’m at every 4 months and I will either stay in the season or move to the other one based on how I am doing. I understand this idea might seem crazy to a lot of people, but my brain loves to plan and organize and every time I get a new idea, I want to act on it immediately. With this new plan in place I can tell my brain to just Breathe and relax, we have a plan in place and any new ideas will go on a list to possibly incorporate later when I do my next review.
I wasn't going to share this new plan with anyone (other than my husband and he loved the plan as he is the one that sees the most of how my depression can take me down) but then a few days later I got an email from Stampin' Up! (my direct sales company) that said something like "should you do more or less with your business" and my jaw literally dropped. I couldn't believe I was seeing this and I felt like it was God confirming to me that doing less on purpose was exactly what I was supposed to be doing. I shared the idea with my Team Leader and she also loved it. So now I'm sharing it with you, what if you did less, on purpose, even if it's only changing one thing, how would it help your life? Could you Breathe just a little bit better?!
